Common Cold, Bronchitis, and Pneumonia Adds to Pakistani Earthquake Victims' Woes
Currently there are many survivors in the high mountain regions that have been without food, shelter or medical services for almost a month since the devastating earthquake that shattered that region on October 8, 2005.
Now that cold winter weather is quickly setting in that region, it is a second disaster just waiting to happen. It is feared that many earthquake survivors will succumb to severe cold -especially the young children, elderly, the sick and the injured.
Considering that most of the quake survivors have no shelters, blankets, or winter clothing items, thousands of them face the danger of hypothermia.
The fatality count from the Oct 8. earthquake currently stands near 75,000, and unless help gets to those survivors quickly, the fatality count may further rise significantly.
Relief efforts by United Nations and various governmental and non-governmental organizations (NOG's) appears to be far from being adequate.
