Mesothelioma Risk Factors
Asbestos has been mined and used commercially through out the last two centuries. It was extenstively used during early 1940s, thereby exposing millions of American workers to microscopic asbestos fibers.
It has been observed that shipyard workers, people who work in asbestos mines and mills, asbestos products manufacturers, heating and construction industry workers, furnace manufacturers and repairsmen were at the greatest risk of developing an asbestos related desease.
There is also some indication that family members and others living with asbestos workers have an increased risk of developing mesothelioma, as well as other asbestos-related diseases. This risk is thought to stem from their exposure to asbestos dust and fibers carried home on the clothing of asbestos workers.
Insulators, Boiler makers, Furnace workers, Ship fitters Steel workers, Maintenance workers, Pipe fitters, Brake mechanics, Construction and Insulation workers -and to some extent those living with them -are also considered to be at greater risk of developing Asbestos-related deseases.
