How can asbestos affect children?
Birth defects have not been observed in animals exposed to asbestos.
However, it is likely that health effects seen in children exposed to high levels of asbestos will be similar to the effects seen in adults.
Even though children are less likely to encounter occupational exposure to Asbestos fibers, they are no less vulnerable to asbestos fibers if they are living in a general area that has higher levels of environmental (airborne) asbestos levels.
Records do show, however, that children exposed to asbestos have developed respiratory complications -after being exposed to asbestos dust brought home by adults (on their clothes and in their hair) after returning from work places contaminated with asbestos fibers.
